Sealing the deep grooves and pits on the chewing surface of children’s molars with a thin, flowable filling material to protect against decay. A short, painless procedure.

The chewing surfaces of the molars have deep grooves (fissures) that a toothbrush cannot reach. In children, most decay starts in these areas.
A fissure sealant closes these grooves with a tooth-colored or white flowable material. The tooth is not cut and no numbing is needed. At our clinic, fissure sealants are applied by our pediatric dentist, Gizem Genç Danışman, DDS.
The teeth are checked for decay. Any decay is treated first.
The tooth surface is cleaned and dried.
The flowable material is applied to the grooves and hardened with light.
Check-ups monitor whether the sealant is still in place.
Fissure sealants are applied by our pediatric dentist.

Examinations, fissure sealants and preventive care for children.

Applied in the pediatric unit set aside for children.
No. The tooth is not cut and no numbing is needed.
Mostly after the permanent molars have come in, around ages 6 and 12. The right time is decided at the examination.
They can last a few years. If wear is seen at check-ups, they are renewed.
Straight after the application, your child can go back to school and normal daily life.
A sealant greatly lowers the risk of decay but does not remove it completely. Regular brushing and check-ups are needed.
