Implant-supported dentures in brief

An implant is a titanium screw that replaces the root of a missing tooth; the tooth made on it is called an implant-supported prosthesis. Once the implants have fused with the bone, impressions are taken and the teeth are made.

The implant is placed by our periodontist, Dr. Ömer Kazım Toprak; the teeth on it are made by Dr. Betül Hamitoğlu and Balamir Türker, DDS. This way the surgical and prosthetic stages are planned together at the same clinic.

A denture can hold on to the remaining teeth, the gums and palate, or implants. An implant-supported denture is secured on implants.

The implants and the prosthesis are planned together with an examination of the mouth and a CT scan (CBCT).
Implant surgerysurgical stage
The implants are placed. A temporary denture is used during the waiting period if needed.

The implants are given time to fuse with the bone.
Impressions and try-inprosthetic stage
Impressions or an intraoral scan are taken; the shape and color of the teeth are checked at the try-in.
Fitting and check-upfitting appointment
The prosthesis is fitted, the bite is adjusted and a regular check-up schedule is set.

Good to know

If a temporary fixed prosthesis has been fitted on implants, avoid hard foods; call the clinic if it comes off.
If you use a temporary removable denture, follow the hygiene rules and see your dentist if you have pain.
After the permanent prosthesis is fitted, it is normal for speech and chewing to feel unfamiliar for a while.
The health of the gums around the implants directly affects the lifespan of the prosthesis.

Don’t bite very hard foods with your front teeth
Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth

A check-up and cleaning every six months
Call the clinic if you notice the prosthesis moving or making a noise

When is an implant-supported prosthesis fitted?

It is fitted after the implants have fused with the bone, usually within a few months. In suitable cases, temporary teeth can also be made on the same day.

What material is it made of?

Materials such as zirconia, porcelain or acrylic can be used. The choice depends on the type of prosthesis and the area.

How many implants are needed for a whole jaw?

It depends on the bone. Usually 4–6 implants are planned for fixed prostheses and 2–4 for removable ones.

How long does an implant-supported prosthesis last?

With good care and regular check-ups it can be used for many years.

How much does it cost?

The fee depends on the number of implants and the type of prosthesis. After the examination you receive a written treatment plan.
