Denture treatment in brief

Dentures are artificial teeth that replace missing teeth and can be taken out and put back in. If no teeth are left, a full denture is made; if some teeth remain, a partial denture that takes support from them is made.

The denture is made to the measurements of your mouth and fitted to you through try-in stages. In suitable patients the denture can also be secured with implants. At our clinic, denture treatment is carried out by Dr. Betül Hamitoğlu and Balamir Türker, DDS.

A partial denture holds on to the remaining teeth with clasps; a full denture sits on the gums and palate. In suitable patients the denture can be secured on implants.

The remaining teeth, gums and bone are assessed; if needed, fillings, extractions or gum treatment are done first.

Your jaw relationship is recorded and the tooth setup is tried in your mouth; color and shape are chosen together.

Good to know

The first weeks with new dentures

It is normal for speech and chewing to feel unfamiliar for a while.
Starting with soft food and small bites in the first days makes it easier to get used to them.
If a spot causes pressure or a sore, don’t try to adjust it yourself; come in for a check-up.
Because the gums and bone change over time, dentures need to be checked over the years and replaced if needed.

Aftercare

Caring for your dentures

Every day

Take the denture out after meals and rinse it with water
Clean it with a soft brush at least once a day

At night

Unless your dentist says otherwise, take it out at night to rest your gums
Do not let the denture dry out when storing it

Check

Come for a check-up at least once a year
Call the clinic if it breaks, cracks or becomes loose

Common questions about dentures

How long does it take to make dentures?

It depends on the type of denture and how much the mouth needs to be prepared. From impressions to fitting, a few appointments are usually needed; the schedule is given at the examination.

Can I eat comfortably with dentures?

After the adjustment period you can eat most foods. Starting with soft foods in the first weeks is recommended.

Do dentures move?

Full dentures can move, especially in the lower jaw. In that case, securing the denture with implants may be an option.

Are dentures permanent?

Dentures can be used for many years, but because the gums and bone change over time, regular check-ups and replacement when needed are necessary.

How much does it cost?

The fee depends on the type of denture. After the examination you receive a written treatment plan.
